Notes from the Pastor
Notes from the Pastor
when he came
to town
a turning point
appeared possible
party and parade
for the day
a little pretend
things will
work out
as we dreamed
remaining
in denial
for a while
may be
the only way
to make it
until morning
who would
withhold
a chance
to shout
and celebrate
seeing someone
joyous
for a moment
could be
close as
we can come
to happiness
then he went
to church
big mistake
barely inside
when this
hassle with
religion marketers
erupted
he accused them
of exploiting
those most
vulnerable
next came
questions
about authority
and loyalty
didn’t he realize
his fate
was being
sealed
only a meal
with friends
and dark
garden arrest
remained
never has
anyone
been known
as empty
of self
as he
no need
to look
successful
or good
in control
have advantage
garner praise
a woman
off the streets
received
as much
attention as
the wealthy
powerfully
connected
he gravitated
to wherever
there was
human need
that was his
priority
the precedent
established
never was he
enough
of anything
to please
or be easily
identified
therefore
the perfect
scapegoat
on which
to load
blame
someone is
always named
to take
the fall
but what
was seen
in him
is difficult
to kill
hold in
a grave
and visit
on occasion
it escapes
loose again
some say
even goes
to hell
searching
for those
still suffering
who have
lost touch
with the love
inside
between
searching
until all
of us
prisoners
are free
and go home
together
