A major part of the Outreach Ministry of North Spring UMC is involved with Scouting. North Spring sponsors three Boy Scout Units and numerous Girl Scout Units meet regularly at The Spring.
Units Sponsored by The Spring:
Boy Scout Troop 306
Troop 306 is one of the oldest Scout Troops in Blue Springs. The first Eagle Scout was C. O. Lentz, in 1933. Since then, over 50 young men have received the rank of Eagle Scout from Troop 306.
North Spring began its association with Troop 306 in the fall of 2005. It meets each Monday Evening, except the Monday after a monthly activity, when the Troop Committee Meetings are held.
Currently there are 8 young men who belong to Troop 306, and are guided by 7 adults. Boys are eligible to join Troop 306 when they turn 11 years old, or have completed the fifth grade, or have earned the Cub Scout Arrow of Light Award.
Mr. Stan Clark is the ScoutMaster and Mr. David Olmsted is the Committee Chairman.
Each summer, Troop 306 attends the H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation, near Osceola, MO. Bartle consists of three self contained Scout Camps and sessions there are 9 nights – 10 days. Older youth members and most adult members of Troop 306 are members of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, an honor camping organization at the Bartle Scout Reservation.
Cub Scout Pack 306
North Spring began its sponsorship of Pack 306 also in the fall of 2005. It has been in existence for a very long time.
Pack 306 has their Pack meetings on the third Thursday of each month, generally at The Spring. They actively recruit new members from William Bryant Elementary School, but boys from several different schools are members. Most boys who finish Pack 306 join Troop 306.
Currently there are about 60 young men who belong to Pack 306. They are organized into 6 dens, each led by an adult Den Leader. Dens usually meet three times each month.
Mr. Jon Trumble is the CubMaster and Mr. Shane Thompson is the Committee Chairman.
For more information about Pack 306, see www.cubscoutpack306.org.
Cub Scouting
Both Cub Scout Packs attend age appropriate summer camps. Everyone can attend a 5-day camping experience held in early July in Independence. Bear Camp is a one-night two-day experience held at Camp Naish, near Bonner Springs, KS. Webelos Camp is a two-night three-day experience also held at Camp Naish. A goal of Cub Scout overnight camping is to have a parent accompany each scout.
