  Sarah's Blankets Project

Sarah Stalker was a young member of our congregation who struggled with recurring cancer diagnosed in the spring of 2003. Sarah wished to make each of her 5 children a fleece blanket for Christmas 2003, a special gift from a mother to her child.

Because of her failing health, the Disciple III Class at North Spring spent several afternoons with Sarah to assist in the completion of her wish. The blankets were made amidst a loving atmosphere, prayers of concern and occasionally soft, cleansing tears.

Steps were taken to fulfill Sarah's wish for others in our community to provide a gift of warmth and love when presented with a blanket. North Spring United Methodist Church began the venture and titled it Sarah's Blankets. Blankets are made through volunteers' time and donations. The distribution of Sarah's blankets is made possible through St. Luke's Hospice in Kansas City.

North Spring people have been making Sarah's blankets since January 2004, fulfilling an order of 5 per quarter. So North Spring provided 20 blankets in 2004, 20 blankets in 2005, and 20 blankets in 2006.

If you would like to make a donation to Sarah's Blanket Project, you may send it to North Spring UMC, attention Sarah's Blankets. For more information, contact Mary Pulley at 816-373-8720 or call the church at 816-224-9490.

These blankets are truly a gift of love!
